Woman sentenced for stealing $143,000 from Dunwoody Baptist Church

DUNWOODY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A woman was sentenced to 20 years, 3 to serve, and ordered to repay $143,955.07 to Dunwoody Baptist Church for funds stolen between 2006 and 2009.

On Friday, Patricia Padgett plead guilty to four counts of theft by taking.

Padgett was the former accounts payable manager for Dunwoody Baptist Church.

She was responsible for collecting the income from the church's various activities and depositing money in the church's SunTrust account.

Padgett will spend three years in prison and the remainder of her 20-year sentence on probation, according to court records.

"The defendant knowingly and willfully deceived her former employer and stole more than $140,000 over a three-year period. "said DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James.
