DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A man police said attempted to rob a DeKalb County bank was shot by a security guard Wednesday morning.
Officers told CBS Atlanta News that the situation was very intense.
Police said a man walked into the Citizens Trust bank near South Hairston Road and Wesley Chapel Road with a toy gun in a robbery attempt.
The security guard, in an attempt to stop the robbery, shot the suspected robber in the leg.
"The suspect made an aggressive movement with his hand gun and the security guard fired several rounds," Lt. Pam Kunz said.
It is unclear how many shots were fired, but one of those shots grazed a bank teller.
The suspected robber and teller were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Shaun German-Tucker and her family are counting their blessings tonight. Her mother-in-law was inside Citizen Trust when the shooting started.
"I'm just grateful that it didn't turn out that anyone else was hurt in the bank. I'm glad that my mother-in-law was OK," a relieved German-Tucker said.
Police believe the robber worked alone, but are checking security tapes to see if he had a getaway driver.
