DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The DeKalb County school district has released two school year calendar options for the community to review.
The first option is a traditional school year calendar with a start date of Aug. 12 and an end date of May 23.
The second option is described as a balanced calendar. It has a start date of Aug. 5 and an end date of May 29, but has an additional week of vacation in each semester.
Other schools in metro Atlanta operating on a balanced calendar include Rockdale County Schools and City Schools of Decatur.
Both calendars have 180 school days, with an additional 10 days for teachers.
The district is also considering a plan where students would be let out early one hour once a week to allow teachers and administration time for development.
The calendar options will be available for public comment until Sept. 26. To participate in the survey, click here.
