ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Fire investigators believe an overheated portable device used to charge a car battery sparked a late night house fire.

Crews arrived at the home at the corner of St. James Drive and 7th Street after 1 a.m. Friday.

A witness told CBS Atlanta that the female homeowner and a friend were alerted to the fire by a passerby, and were able to escape safely.

There were no injuries reported. Approximately half of the home was destroyed by flames.
