FORSYTH COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A Forsyth County man was arrested and charged with theft by receiving in connection with the theft of the eagle sculpture from the Big Creek Greenway.

Pedro Castro Garcia, 29, was charged on Monday.

Sheriff's deputies recovered the 350-pound eagle statue at Garcia's house. Police were tipped off by a jeweler after he wanted to sell it to him.

When the statue was first taken people were shocked at how much effort was put in to stealing it. There was just as much effort to get it back, and those involved said it was worth it.

Finding the giant eagle was the hard part, but loading it up wasn't exactly easy.

County Commissioner Todd Levent was the one who got the call about the eagle.

"It took the three detectives and me to help drag it out of the shed and over to back of the truck. Then, another deputy sheriff helped. It took five of us to put it in back of the truck," Levent said.

But they got it eventually, which is a victory for a community that has really missed it at the Big Creek Greenway Trail.

"I think community took it fairly personal. It's an icon that sits at one of our head trails and everyone gets to view it. It's a beautiful piece of art," Levent said.

Nubia Stwart was shocked and angry the statue was stolen, but now that it's been recovered she has a much different feeling.

"That is great. That is very good news," Stwart said.
