Outrage over security guard shooting

Posted: Updated:
COBB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A Cobb County community is demanding changes after a security guard allegedly shot and killed a man and injured another.

It happened Tuesday night at the Parkview Atlanta Apartments near Six Flags.

Police said the security guard got into a fight with some individuals and it ended in the death of Andre Oliver.

The Cobb County Police Department said it will likely not file charges against the security guard, who is claiming self-defense.

It will, however, go to the district attorney's office, who will take the case to a grand jury to decide.

In the community, emotions were running high with sadness for the one who was lost, anger towards the security guard and at least one young man feeling lucky to be alive.

"I heard four shots in less than 15 seconds," said Jenkins.

Jacoby Adams was an innocent bystander.

"I didn't know I had been shot until I looked down and seen blood squirting out," said Adams.

Adams had been shot in the foot.  He described it as a burning pain, but he knows it could have been a lot worse.  "I feel lucky to be alive.  I thank God for being alive," said Adams.

Oliver wasn't so lucky, leaving his wife behind rubbing the bloody pavement, screaming out, "Why?"

Valerie Dennis knows the victim and his family. "It's tragic, it's awful. It's heart wrenching because she didn't have to go through this," said Dennis.

Residents said they've been complaining about how the guard treats everyone, fearing an incident like this would happen and it did.

"He pulled a pistol on me, pulled it out on other people. You take the job too seriously. You ain't a police officer," said Jenkins.

And even though police likely won't be filing charges, residents said it's not over.  They want justice.

"He should not get out.  He should not even breathe the air we breathe.  This man is crazy.  He's outta his head," said Dennis.
