MABLETON, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Fulton County police tracked a fugitive wanted for a string of robberies Wednesday afternoon, apprehending him after the suspect crashed his car in a residential Cobb County neighborhood.
According to a Fulton County police spokesperson, the fugitive was wanted for several robberies in the Fulton Industrial Boulevard area.
Authorities used a chopper, in addition to patrol vehicles from Cobb and Fulton counties, to chase down the suspect, 28-year-old Ronald Hightower. Hightower tried to ram police vehicles at one point during the pursuit, according to authorities.
The chase ended in front of a home on Queen Ridge Road in Mableton.
A neighbor across the street heard the crash, and ran out to see if she could help. Gloria Torres said she saw a woman climbing out of the passenger seat of the crashed vehicle, but did not see anyone in the driver's seat.
Torres said she tried to help the female who was in the passenger seat.
"She was walking like she was kind of in a daze, like a zombie walking around, like she didn't know what was going on," said Torres. "She walked out of the car, we came up to her and asked if she was OK, she really wouldn't answer. She was still in a daze."
That woman was identified by Fulton County authorities as Hightower's girlfriend. She was not arrested. According to a statement from The Sheriff's Department, Hightower was taken into custody after he ran into a nearby wood line, and was apprehended with the assistance of the Cobb County canine unit.
