I-85 southbound lanes reopen in Gwinnett County after major accident

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

All southbound lanes of Interstate 85 have reopened in Gwinnett County after traffic was delayed due to a serious accident.

The accident, which involved a motorcycle and at least five vehicles, happened just south of Beaver Ruin Road around 2 p.m.

Initially, only one lane was open to traffic, causing at least a three-mile back up behind the accident, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The motorcyclist was the only person injured in the accident, according to Gwinnett County police. He was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
