According to a press release issued by Breeder's Choice Pet Foods, the company is recalling only its AvoDerm Natural Lamb Meal & Brown Rice Adult Dog Formula with the "Best Before" dates of Aug. 28, 2013, Aug. 29, 2013 and Aug. 30, 2013.
The food was distributed to retailers and distribution centers in California, Georgia, Illinois, Nevada, Virginia and Washington.
Common symptoms of salmonella in dogs include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, lethargy, fever and abdominal discomfort.
"If your pet is experiencing vomiting, diarrhea or otherwise not acting right, contact your primary care veterinarian as soon as possible," said Dr. Neil Shaw, chief medical officer of BluePearl Veterinary Partners.
