ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
On Sept. 2, a victim who lives at Apex West Midtown apartments at 1133 Huff Rd. in northwest Atlanta thought she was going to die.
The woman did not want CBS Atlanta News to identify her.
Currently, she is in the process of moving out of the complex even though she just moved in a couple months ago.
The victim stated that she came home from the store at about 3 a.m. When she opened the front door and turned off the alarm, a man immediately put a gun to the back of her head.
"He told me not to turn around, forced me into the door and told me to get on the floor," she said. "The longest three minutes of my life pretty much. I am thinking I am going to die, I mean I think they left because my dog kept barking, but I'm thinking I am going to die, they are going to kill me and take everything."
Since July 1, police reports obtained by CBS Atlanta News show 12 incidents at the complex. They include armed robberies, burglaries and vehicle break-ins.
According to a report date Aug. 22, two women were sitting in their car in front of the apartment complex talking when two men approached them asking for a cigarette. When the victim said she didn't have any, "Suspect number one started punching the woman demanding her purse," according to the report. Then one of the men pulled out a hand gun and pointed it at them. The victim had blood running down the side of her face.
"I don't see any change or I don't see them doing anything about it," the victim from the Sept. 2 armed robbery told CBS Atlanta News about her attack.
In June, CBS Atlanta News was told by the apartment complex that swift action would be taken to stop the rash of crimes in and around the complex.
"Well, we definitely are going to have to sit down and look at some things that have happened here that might be under our radar, or that we are not finding out about and take some steps to address those," Matthew Futral with Perennial Properties told CBS Atlanta News in June.
Residents said the only action the apartment complex has taken is increasing the number of emails sent out to warn residents about crime.
"I get a lot of emails," the victim said. "But, I don't think they are doing enough."
CBS Atlanta tried contacting Perennial on Monday to talk about the increase in crime, but we did not hear back.
According to emails obtained by a resident at Apex West Midtown, they have held crime awareness meetings with members of the Atlanta Police Department the day after the Sept. 2 armed robbery.
The email goes on to talk about other aspects the complex is working on to make it safer:
"Apex has added an additional patrol officer to provide more visibility and coverage. A patrol officer will also ride a bike for quicker patrolling in the parking deck and around the building. Apex is now working to enhance the vehicle gates to deter tailgating and to enhance the pedestrian gates to prevent doors from being propped open. Apex is now working to enhance lighting by adding motion sensor lighting in courtyards and along the dog walk area."
