Milton High School speaks on coach's removal
MILTON, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The Georgia High School Association has placed the boys' basketball program at Milton High School on probation for the 2012-13 season for violating GHSA rules in regard to "undue influence."
The Milton team will not be eligible to participate in the Region Tournament or the State Tournament.
The program will be on severe warning status for the 2013-2014 season, but will be eligible for postseason play.
On Monday, Fulton County school officials confirmed that Milton High School basketball coach David Boyd resigned.
His resignation comes after complaints were reported by the school of "undue influence" of players on the basketball team.
Officials said the "undue influence" is related to team recruiting.
CBS Atlanta news asked what could be constituted as "undue influence."
"It can be anywhere from inviting someone to attend a game or practice - giving influence to try to help convince somebody to come to your school," said Fulton County Schools Athletic Director Dr. Steven Craft.
According to The Georgia High School Association, there was no evidence discovered that former Milton coach David Boyd initiated contact with prospective transfer students and/or their parents or guardians.
The investigation found no evidence that any of the transfer students mentioned in this matter had failed to have a bona fide move into the Milton service area.
No replacement for the coach has been made at this time.
