COBB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Police in Cobb County are investigating a fatal accident where a car left Interstate 75, plunged down a ravine and into the woods, bursting into flames around 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

The Cobb County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Kevin M. Stefanik, 39, of Woodstock.

Cobb County police told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Stefanik, who was driving a Buick Regal, had pulled over to the right emergency shoulder.

A H.E.R.O. roadside assistance truck was about to stop and help. However, Stefanik pulled away from the H.E.R.O. unit, and went about 100 yards before plummeting down the ravine.

Authorities have determined Stefanik died as a result of injuries he sustained in the crash.
