The Citadel's Thomas Warren kicked the game-winning field from 37 yards with 35 seconds left to edge Georgia Southern 23-21 on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs had lost five in a row to the Eagles. The Citadel (2-0) had lost nine consecutive Southern Conference home games since a 28-16 victory over Samford in 2009.
Georgia Southern's Ryan Nowicki missed two field-goal attempts, and the Eagles fumbled five times, losing two. One fumble on the Eagles' 27 led to the Bulldogs' first score, a 19-yard run by Rickey Anderson. Ben Dupree's first career touchdown pass, a 26-yarder to Domonic Jones, scored the Bulldogs' second touchdown.
Warren kicked field goals of 42 and 39 yards for a six-point lead. The Eagles tied the game with 3:13 remaining on Ezayi Youyoute's 1-yard run.
Georgia Southern ranks third in the Football Championship Subdivision and is the highest-ranked team the Bulldogs have beaten.
