LITHIA SPRINGS, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Motorcycle riders in Cobb County gathered to ride and raise money Saturday for Cpl. Todd Love of Acworth, a triple-amputee who was wounded while serving in Afghanistan two years ago. The gathering began at the Harley Davidson store in Lithia Springs, as Love looked on with humble appreciation.
"A lot of people are showing up, there's a lot of support out there," said the U.S. Marine, who lost his left arm and both legs when he was wounded by an IED blast on Oct. 25, 2010.
"I just deal with it. What else can you do?" he said. "It's not a pretty thing, and I just try to make the most of it."
Part of his adaptation means getting into a "smart home", designed with upgrades for amputees like himself.
The new home, which costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to outfit, includes sliding doors, an elevator, a kitchen sink that can raise and lower to Love's height, and a fridge that is also on his level, among many other features.
The group "Bikers for America's Bravest" helped put on the event.
"I don't feel like anyone special, I don't feel like I deserve a lot of these things that people want to give me," said Love.
He hopes to move into his new home sometime next month.
