Tracen Franklin
DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Testimony will continue Thursday in the trial of a man accused of beating a Douglas County teenager to death.
Tracen Franklin is one of four people accused of beating and killing Bobby Tillman at a party in November 2010.
For the second day in a row, teenagers who were at the party took the stand Wednesday.
Will Rushing testified he drove Franklin to the party where Tillman was attacked. Rushing told the jury Tillman tried to get away from Franklin and another teen after they started beating him.
"He was back peddling towards, I think, a silver car. I don't know what happened with the driver of the car if he panicked, but he pulled off and Tillman fell," said Rushing. "Tracen ran up and started punching Bobby Tillman."
Late in the day, the medical examiner with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation took the stand and testified about the injuries Tillman suffered. Prosecutors said Tillman was beaten so badly his heart ripped. Dr. Jonathan Eisenstat told the jury the evidence of the injury was apparent when looking at the area around Tillman's heart.
"His pericardial was tense. It was blue, which indicates it was filled with blood. Another observation was there were a few areas of hemorrhaging or bleeding in his right lung scattered throughout. Those injuries are consistent with bruising of the lung itself," said Eisenstat.
Emanuel Boykins took a plea deal in April and pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to life in prison.
Quantez Devante Mallory, 19, and Horace Damon Coleman, 20, were also charged in the killing, but the prosecutor is not seeking the death penalty in their cases. They are awaiting trial.
