HENRY COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The cause of a fatal house fire is under investigation in Henry County.

On Sept. 1, just before 3 a.m., the Henry County Fire Department responded to a fire at 3325 Clemons Rd. in Stockbridge.

Firefighters said the single-story home was heavily engulfed in flames.

Five of the six residents were able to escape without injury.

Four were taken to an area hospital for evaluation, for possible smoke inhalation.

A 77-year-old man was unable to escape, falling victim to the blaze, according to Henry County officials.

The fire victim was pronounced at the scene.

"On behalf of Henry County Fire Department, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time," said Captain Sabrina Puckett.

The home did have working smoke alarms in the upstairs sleeping area which did sound, according to residents.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
