SANDY SPRINGS, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Some residents are wondering why Sandy Springs sent 20 police officers, including Chief Terry Sult to Charlotte, NC on Saturday.
The city told CBS Atlanta they sent the officers to assist in venue security, bicycle patrols and public affairs duties.
Sult, a former commander of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department's Downtown District, is in charge of the downtown traffic details.
Officers from LAPD, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and several others will join the Sandy Springs officers.
The city wants residents to know Sandy Springs taxpayers are not at cost for this convention detail. Funding is through the Democratic National Convention.
