MARIETTA, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The Marietta Fire Department has 250 smoke alarm devices made for the deaf and those who are hearing impaired.
The fire department received the smoke alarms through a federal grant, and they are giving them away for free.
The device picks up sound from a regular smoke alarm and then it vibrates to warn people about a possible fire.
"We hear of a lot of people that need these things because they say they didn't hear their smoke detectors go off. Somebody else alerts them and gets them out," Scott Tucker, assistant chief of the Marietta Fire Department.
For information on how you can get one of these smoke alarms, just call the Marietta Fire Department at 770-794-5466.
