ATLANTA (CNN/CBS ATLANTA) -

Many people shell out the extra money for organic food, figuring that it must be healthier for them. But a new study questions that.

The study looked at a lot of other studies, and researchers found is that organic food has a 30 percent lower risk of being contaminated by pesticides.

Also, people who eat organic food have fewer pesticides in their body, which can be tested through a urine sample.

Given those two things, you might think that if you eat organic, you'll live longer, or be less likely to get a disease like cancer.

But researchers point out that there aren't any studies that show eating organic will have a positive or negative impact over a person's life span.

There is one group of people that deserves special consideration: Pregnant women.

There are studies showing that pregnant women with higher levels of pesticides in their bodies are more likely to give birth to babies that are at a lower birth weight and have a lower IQ.

The American Academy of Pediatrics says parents should try to minimize the amount of pesticides in their children's diets.
