DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A teen driver who tried to flee the scene of a minor accident wound up crashing into a utility pole, injuring himself and his passenger.

The driver struck another car on South Deshon Road near Shady Creek Drive, causing minor damage just before 2 a.m. Tuesday, according to DeKalb County police.

The teen then attempted to leave the accident scene, but struck a pole, trapping himself and his female passenger inside the car.

Emergency crews freed the teens from the wreckage and both were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in an unknown condition.

Police said the driver was charged with driving without a license and hit-and-run.

The other driver involved in the original accident was not injured.
