Ten killed on Georgia roads during Labor Day weekend

It was a busy Labor Day weekend in Atlanta and across the state for law enforcement.

The Georgia State Patrol reported Tuesday that 10 Georgians lost their lives in eight fatal crashes over the holiday weekend.

Fatalities were reported by Cobb County police, Gwinnett County police, Henry County police and GSP posts in Douglas, Toccoa, Valdosta, Cartersville and Madison. The wrecks reported by GSP Cartersville and Madison were each double fatal wrecks.

GSP said the 78-hour weekend travel period began at Friday at 6 p.m. and ended at midnight Monday.

Georgia state troopers investigated a total of 373 traffic crashes, resulting in 230 injuries. There were also 240 drivers arrested for DUI and 983 tickets issued for seat belt violations during the Labor Day weekend.
