COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (CNN) -
A homeowner in Colorado Springs, CO, woke up on Sunday morning to an uninvited guest in his swimming pool - a deer.
But it wasn't just the annoyance of the unusual visitor taking a surprise dip.
The homeowner, Scott Smith, said he couldn't get the buck out of the pool.
"My dogs were barking like crazy and I couldn't get them to knock it off," Smith said. "I got up on the top of my deck and I looked down and there was an eight-point buck in the middle of my swimming pool."
Smith said he quickly realized the deer was trapped in the pool and called 911 for help.
But when police arrived they couldn't get the animal out, either, so they called a heavy fire rescue crew for assistance.
Firefighters built a ramp to lure the deer out. It took about 10 minutes and a little coaxing, but finally the deer used the ramp to free himself.
It was a costly escapade for Smith. His pool was damaged and the cover was torn. He estimated that repairs will cost about $2,500.
