Labor Day gas prices reach all-time high

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Drivers will have to dig a little deeper into their wallets this Labor Day, as gas prices reach record highs.

AAA reported Monday that retail gas prices have risen an average of 30 cents in Florida, Georgia and Tennessee in the past 30 days.

The organization said that retail prices have continued to increase despite relatively stable oil prices. They attribute the spike to domestic and international supply issues.

Jessica Brady, AAA spokeswoman, said, "Hopefully, when Gulf refining picks up again, motorists will start to see retail gas prices fall."

In Georgia, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.84, one cent higher than the national average. The price rose 14 cents over the last week. Gas averaged $3.45 a gallon a month ago, AAA reported.

Gas prices are the highest this holiday than any other Labor Day weekend in history. The previous record was in 2008, according to AAA.

A barrel of oil closed at $96.47 on the New York Mercantile Exchange Friday, which was 32 cents more than the previous week.
