DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A gunman who opened fire in a crowded DeKalb County pool hall early Sunday morning was shot and killed by police.

The man, whose identity has not been released, shot four people at the Trebol Billiards Bar on Buford Highway after a dispute.

Pool hall employee Vlad Starobents told CBS Atlanta News he tried to stop the gunman, who then hit him upside his head with the gun.

"When he come, he was kind of pointing the gun around and shot a couple of times," said Starobents. "I was trying to grab his arm and he hit me."

An off-duty officer who was working security at the bar saw the disturbance and called for backup.  One of the officers fatally wounded the suspect, who police said was still firing his weapon when they arrived.

Starobents received a gash on his forehead. He was treated and released, but he says he still feels bad for the alleged shooter who shot and killed.

"I'm kind of disappointed, yes. A guy got killed here," Starobents said.

The conditions and the identities of the injured patrons are unknown at this time.

Police are still investigating what caused the gunman to open fire.

The pool hall reopened on Sunday for business.
