GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A person was struck and killed by a garbage truck in Gwinnett County Thursday morning.
It happened in the parking lot of the business at 6438 Dawson Blvd. in unincorporated Norcross.
Police identified the victim as Douglas Ezell, 67, of Norcross.
The investigation revealed that the garbage truck was properly backing up after emptying a dumpster at the location.
Ezell was loitering in the parking lot and approached the truck in a blind spot, according to police.
The truck struck Ezell at low speed. Ezell died on scene as the result of his injuries.
An employee told police that Ezell was often seen loitering in the parking lot.
Police were told Ezell showed up nearly every day and used binoculars to look across I-85. Ezell would attempt to hide his actions when approached by employees, and refused to answer their questions.
Police were never called and Ezell has never been arrested by the Gwinnett County Police Department.
The driver of the truck is not facing charges at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
