Man arrested in Cartersville furniture theft

An arrest has been made after $12,000 worth of furniture was stolen in Cartersville.

The furniture had been purchased from Nelson's Furniture with a stolen credit card on May 10.

On Tuesday, Aug. 28, based upon information received during the investigation, officers of the criminal investigations division conducted a search of a residence located at 330 Mountain Chase Dr. in Cartersville.

Officers arrested Tony Lamar Sweat, 50, who lived at the home.

Officers were able to recover approximately $10,000 worth of furniture and returned it to the store.

Sweat was charged with four counts of first-degree forgery, four counts of financial transaction fraud, and one count of theft by deception and was taken to the Bartow County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing and charges could be filed on additional subjects who were involved with the incident.
