ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
After several cases of flooding in the Peoplestown neighborhood in southeast Atlanta this summer, residents are hoping the city can make good on plans to fix the chronic problem before the next big storm rolls in.
Some people have sustained serious damage in years past.
"We've lost three vehicles in the previous floods," Amy Sink said.
Mayor Kasim Reed paid a visit to the neighborhood in July after a recent flooding episode, and vowed to get to work on fixing the problem.
The Atlanta Watershed Management Authority said movement has already happened on that front.
"The immediate action the city took was to clean all the catch basins," said Margaret Tanner with the Watershed Management Department. "We've cleaned them out, we've made sure they're clean for this upcoming storm event."
She also said the city has undertaken several water flow diversion projects, to help reduce the flow to Peoplestown.
"Actually for the city to make progress at this speed has been pretty phenomenal."
