STOCKBRIDGE, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A retired member of the historical Montford Point Marines and current employee of Henry County Schools will receive the Congressional Gold Medal at a ceremony Tuesday.
Southern Nixon will receive the nation's highest civilian honor and is being bestowed upon the first African-American Marine Corps members who trained at the segregated boot camp after an integration directive by then President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1942.
An official ceremony was held in Washington, D.C. this summer.
Tuesday's presentation will take place at Woodland Middle School gym.
