ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
For the second time in 10 days, the Georgia Department of Transportation and the city of Atlanta moved in Monday to dismantle a tent camp underneath Interstate 20 in downtown Atlanta.
City officials call it a health hazard to those people living there, and a safety hazard to drivers in the area.
"It is not safe, sanitary, or humane for members of our community to live on highway exit ramps or other similar locations in the city of Atlanta," said Sonji Jacobs in the mayor's office of communications. "The individuals were respectfully advised that they were trespassing and could be subject to arrest by the property owner."
Atlanta police were on hand to make sure nothing got out of hand as people were told to leave the area, which is the property of the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Some people who were told to leave feel like the city is doing more harm than good to the homeless situation by clearing out the tent area.
"The (city has) an obligation to us," said Davis White, who is homeless. "Their obligation is to assist the homeless in eradicating the homelessness."
