ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A driver accused of hitting and killing an Atlanta couple with his car waived his first court appearance on Monday.

Bryan Butler, 20, lost control of his vehicle on Saturday near the intersection of Memorial Drive and Grant Street just before the accident occurred around 3:30 a.m.

Danya, 31, and William Crumbley, 33, of Atlanta, were walking from a BP gas station on Memorial Drive at Hill Street in southeast Atlanta when police say Butler hit and killed them.

Police said Butler was traveling at a high rate of speed.

William Crumbley is the son of Henry County Superior Court Judge Wade M. Crumbley.

Butler was arrested and charged with two counts of hit-and-run, two counts of homicide by vehicle and reckless driving.

Drugs and alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

Butler does not have a bond and his next court date is September 10.
