WOODSTOCK, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A contractor heading home after a job got a big surprise when he discovered a stowaway attached to his vehicle.
Thanks to a sheriff's deputy who didn't mind getting up close and personal with a snake, they were able to pull the nearly 6-foot-long serpent out of his bumper.
Off-duty Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Sean O'Brien came to the snake's rescue. Amazingly the animal survived the bumpy ride.
"She seemed very healthy considering the fact that she rode all the way from Forsyth County on the back of a van," O'Brien said.
O'Brien carefully tugged and pulled at the Colombian red tail boa before she came loose. The driver of the van thinks the snake jumped on the truck for a ride at a customer's home.
O'Brien had to turn the snake over to an animal sanctuary in Griffin because his wife wouldn't let him keep it.
