ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Jordan "Timmy" Ashley, 21, had just gotten off the bus on Danforth Road in Southwest Atlanta when he was robbed by three men.
He was found unresponsive in the street, just a couple hundred feet away from his home.
"He grew up in this neighborhood," his father Michael Ashley said. "It's been a very safe neighborhood, we've never had any shooting around here, no robberies - those things never happen. He was a real passionate guy, real loving. I loved him, his family loved him, his friends, everyone."
His aunt, Shaun Ashley, wanted people to know that Timmy wasn't just some random person on the street who was killed.
"He was a person," said Shaun Ashley. "Timmy was a wonderful, passionate, focused young man. Timmy made a difference wherever he went."
Fulton County police said there were three robberies overnight within an hour of each other, all in the same area.
The first happened just before midnight on Aug. 22, the next was about five minutes after midnight, and Ashley's robbery and murder was just before 12:30 a.m. Fulton County police believe all three are related.
"They said it was three young men running from the scene," his mother, Carlyn Ashley said. "We hope they get their just punishment that they deserve for taking my son's life. He didn't deserve to die."
Ashley volunteered at the Georgia Aquarium, according to family, and was about to start going back to school at Georgia State University in January.
"He wanted to be a marine biologist," Terra Oglesby said.
Oglesby was Ashley's girlfriend of six months.
"We were enrolling together. He was so excited to go back to school. He helped everyone, he was so smart and such a great person," she said.
