DECATUR, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Flint, an Akita-Husky mix, was abandoned at 5 years old. He roamed around the area of Locust Grove in Henry County with another dog looking for food.
It was that hunt for food that led to Flint losing two of his toes and part of his paw after he stepped in something similar to a bear trap.
"It's ridiculous, ridiculous," Daniel Oman, with Lifeline Animal Project, said. "There was a nearby school where they had an agriculture class where they kept chickens outside. A high school teacher, put out basically a snap trap, a smaller trap like a bear trap. The dog had the trap on his leg for at least three weeks."
Calls to the Henry County School District to find out which school and who was involved were not returned to CBS Atlanta News.
"This is very unfortunate," Oman said. "Getting shot, getting caught in a trap, having that on him for three weeks, I can't imagine what that would be like to try and survive."
Flint was finally tranquilized and captured. He was given to the Henry County Animal Control who transferred him to a no-kill shelter at the Lifeline Animal Project.
"There's never been a snarl, never a growl," Oman said. "He is the perfect dog. I love this dog. He would be a great family dog."
Flint is still a little shy, according to Oman, but gets along well with other dogs.
"He really acts like a real dog and bounces around when he is with a friend," Oman said. "We would really like to see him get adopted. This is a no-kill shelter so if it takes three years to find someone we will keep him for three years."
For adoption inquiry, email adoptions@lifelineanimal.org. The shelter phone number is 404-292-8800.
