Police are investigating after a driver struck and killed a woman who was crossing a Cherokee County road late Monday night.
Georgia State Patrol said Melanie June Mayes, 51, was crossing Highway 92 near Wade Green Road at around 10:30 p.m.
Officer said Mayes fell in the crosswalk and was hit by an on-coming car driven by 25-year-old Tiffany Tashay Thuesdee.
Tashay remained on the scene after the accident. No charges have been filed.
Mayes died at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
