Tropical Depression Nine has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Isaac, the ninth named storm of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season.
The storm has maximum sustained winds near 40 mph with strengthening forecast through the remainder of the week.
Tropical storm warnings have been issued for Dominica, Guadeloupe, Desirade, Les Saintes, Marie Galante, St. Martin, St. Kitts, Nevis, Antigua, Montserrat and Barbuda.
Tropical storm watches have been issued for Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Vieques, Culbera, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Maarten and the British Virgin Islands.
The storm is centered about 580 miles east of Guadeloupe and is moving west near 20 mph. It's expected to move over the central Lesser Antilles on Wednesday afternoon.
The system is expected to move northwest and potentially impact the southeast U.S. coast -- including Georgia -- by the beginning of next week.
