Clayton County sheriff race among Tuesday runoff elections

Posted: Updated:
CLAYTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Voters in Clayton County will head to the polls on Tuesday to settle some contentious runoff battles.

Clayton County Commission Chairman Eldrin Bell will face his toughest opponent yet. He is in a runoff election with former Clayton County Police Chief Jeff Turner.

There was only a 12-vote difference between Bell and Turner in the June 31 primary election.

Also, Clayton County Sheriff Kem Kimbrough is going head-to-head with his predecessor Victor Hill.

Kimbrough received 42 percent of the vote to Hill's 38 percent in the July primary.

Kimbrough said didn't expect to be in a runoff with Hill, especially since Hill is currently fighting a 37-count criminal indictment and Hill's peace officer certification was suspended. Prosecutors said Hill ran his office like a criminal enterprise. Hill said the allegations are ridiculous.

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.  Voters can click here to find their voting precinct and polling location.
