FULTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed signed a contract with C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. Inc to improve access to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Eleven new lane miles and five new bridges as well as the reconfiguration of some roadway will be a part of the new plan.
Aviation general manager Louis Miller said when it is complete travelers will have better and safer access to the domestic terminal.
Construction is expected to begin by Sept. 1 and should be complete within two years. The work will be done in phases and is not expected to require lane closures.
The contract amount for the project is about $48.5 million.
Passenger facility charges will provide 100 percent of funding.
