HOLLY SPRINGS, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
One of the victims in a violent home invasion spoke for the first time about the ordeal Tuesday.
"I was so scared, so scared," Jeanette Mays told CBS Atlanta.
Mays said three masked gunmen stormed her home on Amylou Circle in the Riverside subdivision around two a.m. Monday as her adult son opened the garage door to come inside after dropping off a friend.
One of the men struck Mays in the face and then ordered the family of five to the ground. Guns were pointed at their heads.
"We really thought we was going to die. I was really, really scared. I prayed the whole time I was on the floor. I was like, ‘Lord, please don't let them kill my family," recounted Mays.
Mays said the men then ransacked her home, stealing their jewelry and electronics.
However, unbeknownst to the men, Mays' brother-in-law had called 911 from an upstairs bedroom as they men were first breaking-in.
Police arrived, and chased one of the suspects, Andra Westmoreland, 21, in a van to an area near the corner of Woodstock Parkway and Towne Lake Parkway, where stop sticks were used on the vehicle, causing it to overturn.
Police said Westmoreland was treated on the scene for minor injuries.
The two other suspects fled into the woods and police launched a foot search, Anderson said.
Several hours later, an officer involved in the search spotted a woman in a car on a cell phone who appeared to be looking for someone. Officers followed her and arrested Damon Johnson Jr., 20, and Sharece McCowan, 31, as she stopped to pick them up.
Investigators told CBS Atlanta News that the woman who picked up Johnson and McCowan had no idea she was being used as a getaway driver.
Police said the suspects will be charged with armed robbery, fleeing and false imprisonment.
Mays said she does not know why her family was targeted.
Police planned on searching nearby woods for evidence Tuesday, including the guns used in the crime as well as stolen goods. They think the men stashed the items there before they were captured.
