DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Heavy rains may be the blame for a wreck involving a DeKalb County rescue unit Saturday. The wreck sent three people to the hospital.

DeKalb County Fire Department told CBS Atlanta that the rescue unit was responding to a call when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The rescue unit hit the driver's side of van.

The incident happened in the 3100 block of Wesley Chapel Road just before 6 p.m.

The driver of the van was injured and the two medics in the rescue unit. They were all transported to Grady.

Eloise Carter's nephew was driving the van struck by the DeKalb County vehicle.

"It was raining real hard. Somebody said that my nephew lost control and went over in the yard. I don't know if he was doing it to miss the ambulance or what, but the ambulance landed over in the yard, too," said Carter.

DeKalb County spokesman told CBS Atlanta that it was raining heavily at the time of the accident.

The accident remains under investigation.
