WHITE, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Fire crews from multiple companies battled a large fire at a historic manufacturing plant in White, Ga. early Friday morning.
There were no injuries reported in the blaze at Mouldings Unlimited which was first reported at around 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 411 and Stamp Creek Road.
The fire started on the north end of the building near the loading dock, but fire officials have not determined the cause of the fire.
"A little after midnight I heard a big boom and I got up and looked out the window then we heard several booms and the flames was going up 300 feet in the air," said Marvin Shepler, who lives nearby. "I thought the church was on fire, but when I see that, I said, 'Naw, that's the factory burning now.'"
According to their website, the company is a family owned and operated manufacturing firm that produces approximately 250 different architectural hardwood and softwood moldings for a variety of industries on a regular basis.
The company, which has been in operation for 10 to 11 years, is owned by Brenda and Reid Dunn and they have 25 employees.
CBS Atlanta News was told that just last week, the overnight shift was stopped due to slow business.
Ten employees would have been on that shift.
Gordon County, Cherokee County and City of Cartersville fire departments assisted in knocking down the fire.
Hwy 411 at the scene of the fire is closed until further notice.
