Builder hands over home addition to Aimee Copeland's family

SNELLVILLE, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A nearly 2,000-square-foot addition to the home of Aimee Copeland's family is completed and the builders handed it over to the Copeland family Wednesday.

Aimee Copeland is the University of West Georgia student who contracted a rare flesh-eating bacteria after a zip-lining accident in May.

Copeland's left leg, right foot and both of her hands were amputated.

Pulte Home, Home Depot and many other partners volunteered to build the $150,000 addition, called Aimee's Wing, to make the home more accessible to Copeland.

The two-story space features a new bedroom, fitness room for rehabilitation, a study, and an elevator.

Andy Copeland said the first time his daughter will see the addition is when she comes home for good. He expects that to happen next week.
