DECATUR, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A man with a knife was shot and killed by DeKalb County police Sunday when he refused to drop his weapon.
Michael Perryman, 52, was shot on Sunday around 8:30 a.m. at a Chevron on Glenwood Drive in Decatur.
DeKalb County police told CBS Atlanta News that officers responded to pleas for help from customers in the Chevron after the man, according to police, pulled a knife and began threatening customers.
Schelle King was in the store at the time.
"He wasn't doing anything but like he always do, just talking to himself," King said.
While she didn't see the shooting, she told CBS Atlanta News that Perryman was regular customer that has never harmed anyone.
Perryman was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he died.
Perryman's sister-in-law was angry and questioned why police had to shoot her brother-in-law.
"It's best for someone to stop him, but figure out what's going on first, you understand me. That's all I have to say," the relative said.
