SANDY SPRINGS, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The man accused of shooting his Sandy Springs neighbor is expected in court Monday.
Police said Lamar Reese, 61, shot his 34-year-old neighbor Saturday night at the Parc at Dunwoody Apartments, then barricaded himself inside his home.
According to Capt. Keith Zgonc with Sandy Springs police, the victim, who had already been shot, called 911 for help.
A standoff between Reese and North Metro SWAT team members, which include Sandy Springs, Dunwoody and Johns Creek police, began shortly after 7:30 p.m.
"As officers arrived at the scene, we were being told by the victim, who was calling 911, that his neighbor had shot him," said Zgonc.
Police were able to locate that victim right away. He was taken to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening wound.
But SWAT team members still had work to do. Reese allegedly refused to come out of his apartment.
Finally, after about a 30-minute standoff, Reese surrendered to police. He was taken into custody without any other shots being fired.
"Right now we do not have a motive as to what the shooting was about," said Zgonc. "We received some information that there have been some neighbor disputes in that building with the suspect."
Neighbors who didn't want to be identified told CBS Atlanta News they already had concerns about the suspect's behavior. One neighbor said, "It was just a matter of time before someone got hurt."
For now, further information about Reese and the victim is not being released. Police are still investigating.
Reese is being held in the Fulton County Jail.
