ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A MARTA bus driver who was caught on tape selling snacks to passengers on his bus has been placed on administrative leave.
What's the problem with this picture? Passengers aren't allowed to eat on MARTA buses, and can only consume drinks on the bus that are in resealable containers. Not to mention, MARTA sells its own food at certain stations - so this driver could have essentially been taking money away from his own company.
Passenger Chris Patterson caught the driver selling chips and fruit snacks on the number 117 bus that traveled along Panola Road on Tuesday and took pictures and video of it with his iPhone.
"There's just so many rules that MARTA enforces, that the bus drivers enforce and use against the customers and yet he broke every last one of them," Patterson said.
Patterson said the driver sold bags of chips and fruit snacks for $1 each, and that the schedule was delayed because of the sales.
"People were like, 'Can we leave, can we leave?' He was like, 'Hold on, hold on,'" Patterson said. "We didn't even leave on time."
A spokeswoman for MARTA said eating on buses is not allowed. Drinking beverages from resealable containers is. She said MARTA will investigate what happened while that driver is on administrative leave.
