CLAYTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Former MARTA police officer, Willie Lee, appeared in Clayton County Court on Wednesday to face charges he had sex with a young girl over a period of years.
Police said the sex started when the girl was 9 years old. She is now 14.
Lee was originally charged with aggravated child molestation in DeKalb County but his attorney said police alleged the sex took place in Clayton County.
"Mr. Lee had some text conversations with an individual he believed to be an adult who we know used multiple telephones," said Lee's attorney, Bill Thomas. "We absolutely deny any allegations of child molestation or having contact with someone who he was not old enough to have contact with."
Thomas said Lee had been a police officer with MARTA for 13 years and is an Army veteran.
"As you can imagine, anybody's family would upset and troubled by the allegations which are very serious," Thomas said. "But again, we think at the end of the day the evidence is going to show there's no merit to the allegations and Mr. Lee is going to be vindicated."
Lee is being held without bond at the Clayton County jail. He is due back in court Aug. 21.
