SMYRNA, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Nearly two years have passed since State Trooper Chadwick LeCroy was shot and killed while trying to pull over a car with a broken headlight. On Wednesday, the state honored LeCroy with the dedication of a bridge over the Chattahoochee River in LeCroy's name.
The sign was unveiled on the Cobb County side of South Cobb Drive, before a gathering of LeCroy's friends and family, state troopers and Atlanta police.
"In my mind, they have honored a true hero," said LeCroy's father, Bill LeCroy. "Every time I see that (sign), I know that he died for a reason, and that he protected his community."
The man accused of killing LeCroy, Gregory Favors, is set to face trial this fall.
State Department of Public Safety Commissioner Mark McDonough also said during the dedication ceremony that there are 20 officers in the history of the Georgia State Patrol who've given their lives in the line of duty, but have not been honored with a road or bridge after their name. McDonough said the Georgia State Legislature will spend the next two years making sure all of those officers receive that honor.
