ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Authorities said a worker was killed when the forklift he was operating fell on him outside Atlanta.
The accident happened around 7:40 p.m. Tuesday at an Owens Corning facility on McLarin Road.
Fulton County police Cpl. Kay Lester said at some point, the forklift tilted, and the 35-year-old driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, fell to the floor.
The forklift then fell on him striking him in the head.
The man died at the scene. His identity was not immediately released pending notification of family members.
A spokesperson for the company said the incident involved a temporary worker at an Exel-managed facility.
"Exel expresses its deepest sympathy to the individual's family and is working with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and internal health and safety professionals to ensure a full investigation of the incident is completed," said a statement from the company. "Co-workers at the site have been offered counseling through the company's employee assistance program."
