GAINESVILLE, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A Hall County teenager is in big trouble with the law.

Haley Clark, 17, was arrested Monday at her Gainesville home and charged with the murder of her own baby daughter.

"The infant was 9 days old," said Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks with the Hall County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said that on July 18, just after 1 p.m., Hall County EMS units and sheriff's deputies responded to the 5200 block of Hopewell Lane regarding a report of an infant who had stopped breathing.

Detectives said the little girl, named Olivia, was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators have said little about the investigation.

"The charges were brought as a result of the overall investigation," Wilbanks said. "We can't release the cause of death or any further details of that, pending the receipt of the full coroner's or medical examiner's report."

CBS Atlanta News Reporter Bernard Watson spoke to several of Clark's neighbors about the case. No one spoke on camera, but they all were surprised by the arrest and expressed sadness about the death of a child.

"This is something all jurisdictions deal with time-to-time. It doesn't matter how often they happen, it makes it no less of a tragedy when it does," Wilbanks said.

Clark is being held without bond. She is due back in court on Aug. 24.
