Crown Plaza in East Point
EAST POINT, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The United States Marshal's Fugitive Task Force shot a man while trying to arrest him at the Crowne Plaza hotel in East Point early Wednesday morning.
The man, who officials have not named, was wanted for sale of meth and possession of explosives, according to East Point Police who assisted in the arrest. The U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force received information just after midnight that the man was in a hotel room.
"Upon entry, the suspect challenged them with a handgun in which they were forced to shoot the suspect," said Sgt. Allyn Glover with East Point Police.
It remained unclear where the man was shot. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
The MARTA explosives unit was called in as a precaution due to the severity of the charges. They did not find any explosives in the man's car or hotel room.
Glover said hotel guests were never in any danger.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigations and the Fulton County District Attorney's Public Integrity Unit were called in to investigate the incident.
