Mark Melvin/CBS Atlanta- Crime scene tape marks the area where police investigated a double shooting Tuesday night.
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A man is dead and a woman is recovering from gunshot wounds after shots rang out in a southwest Atlanta apartment complex late Tuesday.
Atlanta Police Lt. Paul Guerrucci said officers were called to the Deerfield Gardens Apartments off Campbellton Road at around 10 p.m. and found two victims.
A woman, 19, was shot in the leg and possibly in the chest. She was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and was listed in stable condition Wednesday morning. A man, also 19, was pronounced dead on the scene, Guerrucci said.
A police spokesman said the woman will celebrate her 20th birthday Thursday.
Officers overnight canvassed the area and talked to witnesses to determine a motive for the shooting.
Guerrucci said the preliminary investigation showed that multiple shots were fired from several different weapons, leading them to believe more than one shooter was involved.
Investigators said the shooting appeared to have begun as an argument that escalated into gunfire.
Police have not released the names of the victims.
As of Wednesday morning, there had been no arrests.
